FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What treatment is right for me?
Move Well Health offers both Chiropractic Care, Myotherapy and Naturopathy. Chiropractic Care works specifically with disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. Myotherapy is known to help with tension and pain in soft tissue/muscle. Naturopathic care deals with nutrition and the biochemical system in the body. Chiropractors and Massage Therapists use their hands to treat patients; however, there is a big difference between them. The therapies go hand in hand, as many chiropractors recommend massage therapy and chiropractic treatment. • Is Chiropractic Treatment Safe?
Chiropractic Treatment is a drug-free and non-invasive treatment modality for mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and their effects on the body’s nervous systems and general Health. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is free of potential adverse side effects. For example, a New Zealand study suggests an over-the-counter pain reliever is 100 times the risk of chiropractic treatment. However, the risks associated with chiropractic are minimal, with few patients experiencing mild soreness, stiffness or aching after spinal manipulations, as they would after some exercise, which typically subdues within 24 hours of treatment. Chiropractors are highly trained professionals who have completed an extensive 5-year university degree. They are trained to identify patients with particular risk factors and will refer those patients to the appropriate medical specialists. If chiropractic treatment can help you, our practitioners will discuss the proper type of treatment for your condition.
  • What is an adjustment?
Adjustments help normalise spinal function. Your chiropractor uses their hands, a small instrument or a drop-piece table to apply a controlled adjustment to a specific spine area. These adjustments correct spinal alignment, release built-up tension and increase neuromusculoskeletal function.
  • Does Chiropractic Treatment Hurt?
Chiropractic treatment is not usually painful. Sometimes, there may be a soreness in the adjustment area during treatment or post-treatment. This is a normal part of the healing process and typically feels better within 24 hours. There is often an audible “pop”, often called “cracking” of the spine. This noise is simply a release of gas from a joint, not bones rubbing together or anything breaking.
  • What style of Chiropractic Treatment do we use?
Our Practitioners use a variety of chiropractic styles specific to your condition, including Diversified, Gonstead, Activator, Drop piece, Webster technique and Cranial work. Dr Ivor Quigley combines the breath & focus with the central nervous system to release stored energy and stress. His approach is low-impact and great for burnout, stress and fatigue.
  • Am I too old for treatment?
Not at all. Here at Move Well Health, we welcome patients of all ages. Chiropractic treatment restores and improves spinal function and can help improve mobility, vitality and endurance. In addition, many patients report improvement with arthritic symptoms and other aging-related chronic ailments. Treatment methods are gentle, and our practice has a unique HYLO table available to help treat our less mobile patients while standing.
  • Is it okay to see a chiropractor if I am pregnant?
Yes, chiropractic treatment during pregnancy is safe. Expecting mothers have found that chiropractic adjustments have helped reduce back and pelvic pain and feel more mobile during pregnancy. Dr Henry Chen is highly experienced in dealing with the intricacies of pregnancy. He will communicate with your obstetric providers where necessary regarding your care.
  • How long will I need care for? What results can I expect? How long until I feel better?
The results of chiropractic treatment vary according to each individual’s specific condition. While some patients experience relief almost instantly, others feel better within two weeks. Factors affecting your healing rate include diagnosis, age, general health, type of injury, how long you have had the injury, and if you are receiving regular treatments.
  • What is Myotherapy? What types of massage do you offer?
We offer a range of progressive relaxation and rehabilitation massage therapies centred on working with deep tissue and correcting postural abnormalities. We will assess your current posture, range of muscle and joint mobility to structure treatment that delivers sustainable lifestyle improvements. In addition, simple and practical exercises can be recommended to maintain your improved flexibility and function.
  • What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Please bring any past test results and imaging reports (x-rays, CT scans, MRIs etc.) relevant to your condition. Our Practitioners will refer you for any appropriate tests or scans during your initial appointment if required.
